Curing acne not just treating it Curing acne depends on dealing with the causes of acne. Acne pimples break out not suddenly but through a build up over several days of infection under the skin. The pores (tiny holes) in the skin can get blocked by an excess of a naturally produced skin oil, which in normal quantities is fine, but which if over-produced by over-stimulated skin glands, creates a breeding ground for harmful acne-producing bacteria. Stop the over-production of oil and you will go a long way to stopping the acne infection.
The redness or hyper-pigmentation is seen as the skin goes through its healing and remodeling process, which takes approximately 6-12 months. If no more acne lesions develop in that area, the skin can heal normally. Any color change or skin defect still present after 1 year is considered to be a permanent defect or scar.
All forms of acne are collections of dirt, oil and bacteria that get trapped in enlarged pores or hair follicles and which are not allowed to escape through regular rinsing or washing of the face because the skin forms a small barrier over these. Everyone has dirt and oil on their face, but not everyone gets acne and certainly most don't have severe cystic acne. The problem with acne is not just that collection of dirt and oil but that barrier of skin cells as well, which shouldn't form this way over that opening. When that barrier forms that collection grows into a small bump that we call a pimple.
